Mammography
A mammography is an X-ray of the breast. It’s a screening tool used to detect breast cancer. Together with regular clinical exams and monthly breast self-examinations, mammograms are a key element in the early diagnosis of breast cancer.
The risk of breast cancer increases with age. A mammogram can detect upto 90% of breast cancer.

Yearly almost 1.5 Lakh new cases of Ca Breast is detected in India of which 75000 die. Mammography is the process of using low-energy X-rays to examine the human breast for diagnosis and screening. The goal of mammography is the early detection of breast cancer, typically through detection of characteristic masses or micro calcifications. You’ll need to follow certain guidelines on the day of your mammography appointment. You should avoid applying the following substances, which can show up as white spots on the image:
- deodorants
- body powders
- perfumes
- ointments or creams on your breasts or underarms
Be sure to tell your radiologist before the exam if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. In general, you will not be able to receive a screening mammogram at this time, but if necessary, your doctor can order other screening methods, such as an ultrasound.

The Rise of Breast Cancer in India
